The Vortex staff comprises more than 40 Morrisville State College (MSC) students who have transformed WCVM into a respected entertainment and media source in the Morrisville area of dominant influence. The station is managed by students and is supervised by a Journalism Department faculty member, who is also a professional broadcaster. All MSC students are welcomed to participate in station activities and can earn one academic credit per semester. WCVM is an award-nominated member of the former National Association of College Broadcasters (NACB), and a member of the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication; Broadcast Education Association; College Media Advisors; and the Radio/Television News Director Association. In addition, the station and its advisor have received several campus awards. WCVM subscribes to the prestigious College Music Journal and reports weekly to dozens of national recording companies. WCVM serves its audience by offering an alternative rock format with a mix of classic rock and hip-hop, as determined by national airplay and in-house research. This format is aired 24 hours a day between the months of September to May. Station on-air talent also broadcast “live” remote Morrisville Mustang sporting events, and conversational current event programs. WCVM is the largest campus club activity sponsored by the Student Government Organization.
