Student managers, who hail from ALL majors, gain valuable leadership experience in the fields of broadcasting, computer information technology, human resources management, and business administration. ![]() It’s hard to believe that Jawann came to Morrisville State College, hoping to study business. His initial visit to WCVM Media changed his career path forever! A die-hard Yankees fan, Jawann aspires to become a professional on-air radio talent – but not necessarily in the sports arena. He plans to become a well-versed broadcasting entrepreneur, showcasing his broadcasting skills in the areas of programming, production, and business. Jawann will graduate with his A.A.S in December 2007 and plans to enroll in the upcoming Morrisville State College B.S. degree in Videojournalism. ![]() Kendra is the station’s “information central!” A senior Journalism Technology major, Kendra works closely with the staff, maintains official records – including the station’s public file – and helps to ensure the station remains in compliance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She enjoys being a leader at WCVM and the challenges of decision-making. Kendra says she loves WCVM because it resembles the broadcasting workforce and it’s a great place to practice one’s ethics and professional code of conduct. ![]() Melissa began her career at WCVM as promotions manager. Today, she oversees news, sports, and music content in her role as Programming Manager for News and Sports. She and her staff work tirelessly to give the station its on-air flair across campus and in the local community. Melissa is a go-getter, an excellent broadcast writer, and a woman with a mission. ![]() What a formula Greg creates! Zombies, news, Flash!, PSAs … you name it! Greg is by far the most creative talent WCVM has employed as Visual Content Manager of WCVM-TV Cable Channel 4. He is responsible for the daily programming of the station’s video messaging system. He is also the creator of this website and the station’s MySpace and Facebook pages. Greg is an Electronic Marketing and Publishing major, who hopes to pursue graphic design in an advertising environment. We’ve already told Greg he can never leave – he’s awesome! ![]() We like to call him “Hotness!” Robert is one of the most well-versed on-air talents and producers at WCVM Media. He is the station’s jack of all trades and that is greatly appreciated. Robert is also a chef. Yes, the kind that cooks! Upon graduation from Morrisville State College, this hospitality major will have plenty of choices for a professional career in food service or broadcasting. He coordinates music, uploads it for airplay, programs the station’s automated showcase, and helps WCVM to offer diverse musical talent a place to give their songs a home. Josh is a superbike, motocross, and NASCAR fan, who will be participating on the weekly sports talk show and hosting his own specialty music show. Josh is a senior in the Individual Studies Program. She is an integral member of the music review and evaluation team and that’s because she loves all types of music. A senior producer for WCVM-TV Cable Channel 4, Gardner creates and broadcasts messages related to campus and community student events and happenings. He’s also an on-air talent and will be leading the WCVM Audio Production Lab this semester. Gardner is a Journalism Technology major. He hosts the popular Monday night talk show, “In the League” from 5 to 7 p.m. Along with several rotating co-hosts, Nick covers campus, local, regional, and national sports events and happenings. This senior producer for sports knows his stuff and he wants you to become part of his “league” by tuning in each Monday at 5 p.m. Nick is a Journalism Technology major. Share some sports with Nick at battag43@morrisville.edu Director of Technology: Joe Virkler ![]() Joe is a Computer Information Technology senior, who rejoined the station this semester as Director of Technology. He is responsible for equipment maintenance as well as monitoring the station’s web streaming encoder, WCVM Live! Podcast Network, and the WCVM audio production lab. Joe is a multi-talented individual, who has served on the news staff, on-air staff, and as a Talk Show talent. His return to the station was in part to a successful campaign to bring him back launched on Facebook! You can reach Joe at virkle77@morrisville.edu Chief Engineer: Nick Marasco Nick is our “invisible fix-it guy!” An 11-year veteran at WCVM Media, Nick has spearheaded the technological transformation of the station to the professional design and function its boasts today. An engineering graduate of Morrisville State College in the 70s, Nick continually gives back to the college through his expert service to WCVM. We greatly appreciate Nick. So much so, we named our MCR after him! Advisor/Chief Financial Officer: Gladys L. Cleland Prof. Cleland is “GladBo” – the academic Rambo! She guides the student managers with their weekly activities, but fully understands and appreciates that WCVM Media is the “students’ station.” A college broadcaster herself in the ‘80s, Gladys loves every aspect of student media management and college broadcasting. She teaches the broadcasting classes within the Journalism Program and holds the distinction of serving as the premiere faculty intern at the former CNN-SI, in Atlanta. She has been honored with several club advising awards by the Student Government Organization and was bestowed a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2006. |
